Vaporized Blends: Wu Freestyles

If you've been following T.R.O.Y. since the beginning you know that our friend Vaporized can throw together some great blends. Whether he's throwing Nas vocals over Godfather Don and 45 King productions or matching AZ acapellas to Hydra beats, the kid puts in work. Now he's back with a little something differet for the Wu Tang aficianados:

this is a 13+ minute continuous freestyle from '96 with Cappadonna, Timbo King and U-God spitting over random breakbeats, blended with some kick ass beats by QDIII, Godfather Don, Rockwilder etc.

the original freestyle is from Wild Style Freestyle Allstars Vol.2. unfortunately I had to cut out Ghostface's verse out of this, but all the random chatter/false starts/mess ups are cut also. this was fairly difficult to construct but I think it kind of works...

AZ - A.W.O.L. (Hydra Beats Blends)

You already know what it is, but now it's better. T.R.O.Y. forum regular, vaporized, went and laced the acapellas of A.W.O.L. with some of the highly sought after Hydra Beats instrumentals. Whether you thought A.W.O.L was dope, mediocre, or garbage, you're gonna want to give this another listen right about now. It's a completely different look over these mostly mellow mid 90's soundscapes. I've had this in constant rotation for a couple of weeks now, and can tell you that this will be something to revisit often in the future.

Two tracks had to be left off because they just didn't work. And that may be for the best because we all know this hip hop thing can't be forced. My top 3 tracks at this moment are "Never Change", "Street Life", and "Chillin". I'll leave you previews of these three below the tracklist.

T.R.O.Y. Presents: The Moaning

Just when you thought most angles of this genre had been exploited, and some even run into the ground, the T.R.O.Y. forum regulars, mainly godmc, done got fresh with the concepts again. This is a compilation, with a mix companion, of songs featuring female moaning, singing, and even howling samples.

I might not have always noticed, but I've always had a thing for songs using samples like these. It's like you can't go wrong with a moaning sample. Whether it be sexy, eerie, or just straight ill, there's definitely something to be explored here. Whether you're buying it or not at this point, have we ever really steered you wrong?

Our resident mixmaster, vaporized, was cool enough to bless us with a well blended mix of these tracks that fits perfectly on a CD. They are not in the same exact order as on the compilation, which also conveniently fits on one CD, but you can download both and then match the tracks up. Besides, they both flow different and who wouldn't want all these bangers on separate mp3s AND in a mix?

Crustified Dibbs - Night Of The Bloody Apes(Remastered)

We come to you today bearing bad news in one hand and a gift in the other. T.R.O.Y. forum resident blendologist supreme, vaporized, has been struck with the hardship of a completely broke down laptop. Thus rendering him incapable of contributing any more monumental blends or mixes until he obtains a new workstation. I will list below all the incredible work that was done by vaporized, in the past 6 months, and wish him a full online recovery.

Before vaporized lost his laptop powers, he left us with this nice piece of work that cannot be found anywhere else in the blogosphere or message board realm. He took the initiative to remaster the highly sought after shelved debut album by Crustified Dibbs called Night Of The Bloody Apes. According to discogs, this was released on CD, but as far as I knew it was only on cassette. I don't claim that this is CDQ or VBR, but it sounds a hell of a lot better than the versions that have been floating around the web for the past years. I don't even claim that this is a classic album in any shape or form. To be honest, the album is, well,......pretty bad. But, for me, it's worth having just for the frustrated emcee anthem Every Record Label Sucks Dick. Included as a bonus cut is the Biggie Smalls featured cut Cunt Renaissance Remix.

Big L - Put It On (Homegrown Remix)

Now that you've probably already scrolled right past these words to hear the Big L joint below and scrolled back up to see what the story was behind it, here it is:

The original version of Big L's Put It On is just perfect. Sampling Buster Williams version of the Roy Ayers' penned Vibrations gave it a smoothed out, soulful appeal that made it an instant classic.

Years later, I thought more about Put It On and decided that it should have an alternate mix. A darker beat that might match his vocals in a more menacing way was what I wanted to see happen. So, at the time, I had my MPC2000xl for about 2 years and was just really starting to put together half decent tracks.

I sampled Bo Hansson's At The House Of Elrond off of his Music Inspired By Lord Of The Rings album from 1972. From what I can remember, I think I just slowed it down on the turntable and sampled a few different parts and arranged them to my liking through the MPC. Then, I took a not too known drum break, chopped it to pieces, layered some other drums over them and tapped it out on the drum pads.

I originally did this in 2004 and I wanted to recreate this to the best of my ability, so I called on vaporized from the T.R.O.Y. forum for some help. I sent him my beat and the Big L acapella and below you can hear the results. Give it a thorough listen and leave a comment, thanks.

Ras Kass - On Earth As It Is...Remix?

Alright, this is NOT an official remix but it would definitely befit you to give this a listen. Here's the story behind it:

Back in between 1994 and 1996, I stumbled upon a purple Cut Chemist mix tape. It was well mixed and full of the latest material from mostly independent labels and some majors, from what I remember. What really stood out to me was this Ras Kass remix of On Earth As It Is...

Through years and years of diggin' and searching, I pretty much gave up on ever hearing it again. Then, one day while digging through a 3 dollar bin at this little record shop in Jersey City,

I found this Ill Mentality record called Lovin' U4 Dayz. I remembered the song and thought it was cool, but no big deal. But when I threw the remix for it on, I nearly fell out. It was the same exact beat as that Ras Kass I had been looking for. Hmmm.

A couple of month's ago, Markshot[from the T.R.O.Y. forum in Philaflava] uploaded all those mid 90's Ras Kass singles. On the flipside of the Anything Goes single, I saw the Acapella version of On Earth As It Is...

That's when my dumb ass realized there never was an officially released remix of it and that Cut Chemist must have blended the Ras Kass vocals over the Lovin' U4 Dayz Remix instrumental.

I sent the aforementioned mp3s to our resident blend master, vaporized[who also championed the I Am blends and the Nas meets Large Pro blends]. The finished product is dope.

In discogs, it says that the original version of Lovin' U4 Dayz was produced by Nick Wiz and that the remix was freaked by Prince Ad. But you can never tell with discogs since their information is usually submitted by sellers.

Nas meets The Large Professor

Do you remember the Nas "I Am" blends that we posted weeks ago? Well, T.R.O.Y. regular Vaporized just recorded a new Nas blend tape. This time, he mixed Nas's acapellas over beats from The Large Professor. It was a perfect match as Nas started his career on Main Source's debut Breaking Atoms. The last time they collaborated together was on "Stillmatic" so it was nice to hear Nas over new sh*t from The LP.

I'd love to see an album by Nas fully produced by Large Pro. While it may not happen, you can listen to Vaporized's incredible blends in the meantime.

Yes indeed ... I Am in its commercially released form is an abomination, the malformed product of a nauseating marriage of greed and cynicism on both the artistic and business end, and it ushered in Nas' decade-long descent into obsolescence. Vaporized took it upon himself to replace the overproduced mediocrity of the commercial release with some choice minimalist beats from Godfather Don and 45 King. Needless to say, the final product is superior to the poorly aged P.O.S. that was the commercially released version, and as resident yachtsman Drizzle suggests:

"putting shit like nas is like and you won't see me over dark minimal godfather don beats gives a whole new shape/direction to the song and in some parts a completely different context to the lyrics."
