Sway & Tech - Wake up Show Unreleased Project (CD)

Sway & King Tech's Wake Up Show Unreleased Project is a compilation of rare tracks by Noggin' Nodder, Chino XL, Steve Def, & The Bums and it has King Tech remixes of D'Angelo, Rakim, & The Pharcyde. The last track on the album is possibly the greatest radio promo of all-time, the 1994 Wake Up Show Anthem with Nas, Organized Konfusion, Ras Kass, Saafir, Shyheim, Dred Scott, & Lauryn Hill. Noggin' Nodder is now known as Motion Man.. the track Bounce is a real banger! That Ice Cube sample is crazy and so is the beat produced by Kut Masta Kurt! The rest is fully produced King Tech. I always thought this was a vinyl only release so I was really surprised when I found this cd! A great pickup!

Ras Kass - The Endangered Lyricist

Just today I received an email from Kris over at Ras Kass Central, where he has a Canibus-like online following and I noticed they're starting this campaign called "Save Ras Kass." Now, it's no secret that he is one of my favorite lyricists of all-time. It's no secret that T.R.O.Y. has showed Ras Kass more love than most rappers discussed here. In fact, I'm willing to bet there hasn't been a blog out there that has come close to what we have done as far as support goes.

Just check the record.

Ras Kass - What Could Have Been?

So getting back to this viral marketing they're doing. What exactly does Ras Kass need saving from? He is no longer in prison. He is no longer signed to Priority Records (at least, I believe so). He is no longer beefing with established rappers (who aren't nearly as talented as he is) like Game. So basically Ras Kass needs saving from Ras Kass. Maybe it's the folks he surrounds himself with. Maybe it's his management? Maybe, just maybe Ras Kass needs go back to the basics and realize what made him the lyricist he is today.

Below we're sold on "15 of Ras Kass' classic songs to remind everyone why Ras Kass is one of the top 5 emcees. " yet we all can look at this track list and easily pick apart a handful of selections that are suppose to help remind us of his G.O.A.T. status. No Sonset? No Etc.? No Jack Frost? No Music Bizness? No Oral Sex (pause)? No Won't Catch Me Runnin"? No Remain Anonymous?

You know the saying you only get one chance for a first impression? Well he's had multiple chances and he still isn't getting it right. I'm not here to pick apart what Ras does, it's only because I have so much respect and expectation for him as an emcee that I feel this adamant about his career and his choices he has made over the years. So download this mixtape and hear glimpses of why Ras Kass was once not to be fucked with and hopefully he'll find his way back home. We've all been waiting. Hip-hop has been waiting. - Jason Gloss

Help A Blogger Out: Won't Catch Me Runnin'

A couple of weeks ago, our brother from SteadyBloggin', Magneto, informed the T.R.O.Y. forum of a different Ras Kass
verse that isn't on any of the Won't Catch Me Runnin versions that we can find. Philaflava contacted the man himself
about this rumored verse. Ras Kass confirmed that there is a version with this verse in existence. But he did not tell
us what it is on or where to find it. Rumors on the T.R.O.Y. forum are stating that there was a Soul On Ice EP. Not
the demo, or the sampler, but another EP.

So, can anybody out there help us to uncover this gem piece?

Here's the verse-

Stop your flow like it's menopause, the men all pause
Cramp your style like PMS
Suckers checking for lumps in they chest
like breast cancer
My stanza gets censorship from Reverend Calvin Butts
but he could suck my diction, dictation is ridiculous
indicative of dictatorship
Today's four letter words were standard English until 1066
and ignorance is bliss
So, as I sag my Ralph Lauren Chaps
walking into lyrical scraps
I'm knocking niggas off the map
See more stars than astronomy
Not near one can follow me
Thoughts premeditated like two Melendez brothers
That's word to the father and the mother

Again, rumor is that this verse is on the Soul On Ice EP. Not the demo or the sampler.
I've never heard of said EP, but Ras confirmed the existense of the verse, so I'm sure it's possible that this EP exists.

To tide us over until this is solved, hungryOne threw together all the different versions that have surfaced thus far:

Won't Catch Me Runnin - 6 versions
Demo Version
Main Version
Main Version Instrumental
Moet Mix
On The Run Version
Radio Edit

Ras Kass - Non-Album Tracks (1994-1996)

Ras Kass is easily one of my favorite MCs of all time, but I'm mostly just a fan of his mid-90s discography. Fortunately, he recorded quite a few tracks in between the years of 1994 and 1996, and he also blessed several radio shows with ill pre-written freestyles. Three volumes worth of non-album tracks is no small feat - that's more than Organized Konfusion had in between the years of 1989 and 1998.

I have also included a "Soul On Ice" instrumental companion as a bonus. Enjoy, and hit us up in the comments section if you have anything that isn't included here. There's an alternate version of "Won't Catch Me Runnin" that I was hoping would surface before the completion of this post, but nobody seems to have it.

Ras Kass - On Earth As It Is...Remix?

Alright, this is NOT an official remix but it would definitely befit you to give this a listen. Here's the story behind it:

Back in between 1994 and 1996, I stumbled upon a purple Cut Chemist mix tape. It was well mixed and full of the latest material from mostly independent labels and some majors, from what I remember. What really stood out to me was this Ras Kass remix of On Earth As It Is...

Through years and years of diggin' and searching, I pretty much gave up on ever hearing it again. Then, one day while digging through a 3 dollar bin at this little record shop in Jersey City,
I found this Ill Mentality record called Lovin' U4 Dayz. I remembered the song and thought it was cool, but no big deal. But when I threw the remix for it on, I nearly fell out. It was the same exact beat as that Ras Kass I had been looking for. Hmmm.

A couple of month's ago, Markshot[from the T.R.O.Y. forum in Philaflava] uploaded all those mid 90's Ras Kass singles. On the flipside of the Anything Goes single, I saw the Acapella version of On Earth As It Is...
That's when my dumb ass realized there never was an officially released remix of it and that Cut Chemist must have blended the Ras Kass vocals over the Lovin' U4 Dayz Remix instrumental.

I sent the aforementioned mp3s to our resident blend master, vaporized[who also championed the I Am blends and the Nas meets Large Pro blends]. The finished product is dope.

In discogs, it says that the original version of Lovin' U4 Dayz was produced by Nick Wiz and that the remix was freaked by Prince Ad. But you can never tell with discogs since their information is usually submitted by sellers.

All The Ras Kass Singles That Really Matter

Recently, one of our more prolific T.R.O.Y. posters, Markshot, blessed us all with pretty much every ill single Ras Kass dropped in the nineties. Well, he actually uploaded them all a few months ago but the links died out. Of course, upon request, he re-upped them with the quick fast. Nothing more to really say about this except dig in while the diggin's good! Ras Kass was making undeniably exceptional music at that point in time. "Won't Catch Me Runnin'" and "Miami Life" were favorites of mine when they first dropped and they still hold weight today. Enjoy!

Learning From The Rap

i've learned a lot of things from hip hop over the years but not much of it has had positive connotations. however, if you dig a little deeper, you can find songs that both teach AND entertain. some may call it "EDUTAINMENT". sure, KRS pretty much holds the title in this sub genre but there are plenty of other teachers out there who also have morals to pass on to the young listeners...and it's not always about some sweet shit either. listen and learn.

http://www.mediafire.com/?nxtwigmnm3f

1)blackman in effect: boogie down productions
moral: learn your history and have pride in that shit
2)america: wu-tang clan
moral: wear a condom or you will probably get AIDS
3)big shots: king sun
moral: don't get too big for your britches
4)mama's always on stage: arrested development
moral: being a mother isn't easy. treat your mother right
5)get a job: heather b
moral: get a job
6)the music of business: ras kass
moral: the recording industry is all sorts of fucked up. good luck with that shit.
7)the streets are a battlefield: KMC
moral: shit is mad real out there, be careful.
8)ain't got no class: da lench mob
moral: what the fuck is wrong with you? be a parent to your children.
9)less then zero:ed o.g. and da bulldogs
moral: the hood is rough. handle your business
10)little hooker: willie d
moral: quit being a lying whore.
11)color blind: ice cube (featuring wc, coolio, da lench mob, kam king tee and threat
moral: gangs are not the move.
12)caught up in the game: da bushwackass
moral: it's easy to get caught up in doing dirt, perhaps we should teach the young'un's differently.

Ras Kass - Soul On Ice Demo (Remastered)

You read right, this is remastered but don't get carried away. We all know the original was recorded poorly so this is a slight improvement to help us appreciate John Austin at his finest.

"I will be stylin' when Cali is an island
It's my fault my shake from Brooklyn to Vegas
The earthquakes on lyrics, ya plates like San Andreas
Would be rumblin'! You're not ready for my fly type of genre
I'll rock your world like Ugly Wanda"

The vocals were cleaned up and the majority of the pops/clips are removed.

Props to Bad Cop for making this happen.
