My Tapes by Basta aka KYOZAI Pt. 3

You might know Basta (aka Kyozai) as being the owner of the rare cassette blog, Music-Thingz.

Recently, he blessed us with a nice portion of his tape collection at philaflava T.R.O.Y. forum.
Here at The T.R.O.Y. blog, we wanted to give these tapes their deserved shine and Basta the proper recognition he's earned, to the people outside of the philaflava forum.

I will split his tapes in several posts, giving you enough time to digest this massive work.

There will be no previews, but c'mon, the hilariously awesome covers alone warrant a download.

Enjoy!

New Jersey Underground Parts 9 And 10 (1989-1999)

My New Jersey series has taken a backseat for awhile now. There are some bangers here I had forgotten about. Some of the more obscure selections are probably Two Weary Travelers, The Outz and Corrupt Empire. 'Get High' is from a 'Priority Records Sampler' tape. Posting these compilations makes me remember tons of classic tracks that have slipped from my mind. These lineups will keep you coming back..

More than anything, I am trying to capture the sound of a particular state when I do these regional compilations. I know there are probably things mislabeled here, but I'm hoping y'all will forgive me. Leave some thoughts, tell me what's new to you and what you've heard. I love putting these 'Garden State' collections together. Thanks for reading. Jersey stand up!

New Jersey Underground Part 7 (1990-1997)

These New Jersey compilations seem to have a following so I'm posting volume 7 today. Many of these tracks came from Tony D's vaults. It's too bad much of it was never formally released. You fans of that early/mid 90s Jersey boom bap are going to love this collection. Some of this material might be familiar, but I am hoping most of what you hear on this will be new to your ears.

New Jersey Underground Part 6 (1990-1997)

Hittin' ya up with volume 6 from my New Jersey series. This one has lots of dope and obscure tracks on it, no kidding. The Black Rebels start things out right with hard, fast paced production. When they ask 'if I smoke crack do you think that you would know ?'. Well yes guys, I think I'd know. 'Black Target' is that quintessential hardcore, east coast street rap that has forever burned itself into my mind. Out of 17 underground cuts, there at least 6 which you might have a hard time tracking down in other places. One selection I really love is the 1994 track by Blvd Mosse. Their single from 1990 is more common, but the later material is even better. For you fans of Rottin Razkals, check out 'Hitcha From The Bricks'. It's a banger. The New Jersey series contains tons of gems and volume 6 passes with flying colors.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=39RNMYBP

01 (4:21) Black Rebels - Black Target (Englewood 1992)
02 (3:11) Baby Chill - Who's The Man (Trenton 1993)
03 (5:34) Lifers Group - Jack U Back (Newark 1993)
04 (3:57) Lowkey & Tony D - Bust The Mental (Trenton 1991)
05 (4:17) Lord Alibaski - Top Gun (Newark 1990)
06 (3:41) B Fyne - Textbook Move (Trenton 1993)
07 (4:18) Rottin Razkals - Hitcha From The Bricks (Newark 1997)
08 (3:48) Black Caesar - Black Caesar (Jersey City 1995)
09 (4:12) S.b.t. - Lifestyles Of A Rude Boy (Trenton 1993)
10 (3:17) Black Prince And Aziatic Roger - 2 Inch Rail (Trenton 1992)
11 (5:42) 360 - Ebony Harmony (Trenton 1991)
12 (5:26) Blvd Mosse - Earthquakes From Da Garden (Trenton 1994)
13 (3:47) Ill Al Skratch - Me And The Click (Ny 1995)
14 (4:52) El Da Sensei Ft. Organised Konfusion, Mike Zoot & FT of Street Smartz - Frontline (Newark 1997)
15 (2:32) N.f.l - Time For Trife (Jersey City 1995)
16 (4:27) Soul Survivors - Show Da Meaning (Newark 1997)
17 (4:57) M.A.D. - Prison Or Street (Camden 1996)

If you have not checked out the volumes I posted earlier do yourself a favor and settle in for some killer boom bap. Leave some comments, let me know what's new to you on number six.

New Jersey Underground Part 3

This is my 3rd underground hip hop compilation from New Jersey. It features some really rare and hard to find material such as High Authority, The Undatakaz, Mr Low Kash, etc. Of note to you collectors, the track by Double X Posse is not on either their 1st or 2nd album, and does not appear on any of their known (to me) singles. I think it came from an piece of wax that never got released. If anyone can tell me about it I would like to know more!

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H0WR42D8

20 (01:11) P.O.V - Nuff of the Ruff Stuff (Outro) [1993]

As usual, I am totally open to corrections so if you see something here's that not right feel free to comment. For instance, I think 8 Off might be from New York. Help me out here folks, what city do 'Da Cheeba Hawks' come from ? How about 'P.O.V' ? This whole collection still gets a huge amount of replay on my system. I hope volume 3 earns your respect as well. Enjoy!

TROY Compilation Challenge - NJ Edition

Over in the TROY Forums (http://www.philaflava.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2), we have compilation challenges every so often to see what kind of dope mixes the people on the board can come up with. This time around, the theme was New Jeruz rap - each participant had to create a 12 song mix with the only rule being the artist had to be from NJ or rap about NJ.

We had 9 contestants enter and you can download each one of their entries below - everyone brought the heat! This was split into 2 groups for easier voting with the 2 winners going to face off after a week of voting. Feel free to drop into the Group 1 thread (http://www.philaflava.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=101078%29 and Group 2 thread (http://www.philaflava.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=101079%29 and vote for your favorites.
