New Jersey Underground Parts 9 And 10 (1989-1999)

My New Jersey series has taken a backseat for awhile now. There are some bangers here I had forgotten about. Some of the more obscure selections are probably Two Weary Travelers, The Outz and Corrupt Empire. 'Get High' is from a 'Priority Records Sampler' tape. Posting these compilations makes me remember tons of classic tracks that have slipped from my mind. These lineups will keep you coming back..

More than anything, I am trying to capture the sound of a particular state when I do these regional compilations. I know there are probably things mislabeled here, but I'm hoping y'all will forgive me. Leave some thoughts, tell me what's new to you and what you've heard. I love putting these 'Garden State' collections together. Thanks for reading. Jersey stand up!

New Jersey Underground Part 8

Comin' at ya today with volume 8 from my New Jersey series. Getting off to a fresh start we have one of the best cuts on the Double X Posse album from 1995. I know I might get some flack for this but I actually prefer that one to their 1992 album. As often happens, a few tracks featured here are from different places other than New Jersey. I always find this stuff out later. For example I put this compilation together on 11/3/2007, but it was not until last year sometime that I found some of the locations are wrong. Oh well, hope y'all will forgive me. I swear, the person who makes a comprehensive encyclopedia of where hip hop artists are from is going to strike it rich. I for one would be hitting up a site like that constantly. Favorite tracks on volume 8 include numbers 1, 2 and 8. Here's a link and the tracklist --

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2H5PIGI0

03 (2:25) The 45 King - Here I Go [Jersey City 1993] (Who is the mc ?)
04 (3:56) Redman - Blow Your Mind [Newark 1992]
05 (3:35) Raw Breed - Let The Dogs Loose [New York, woops 1993]

08 (4:54) Black Prince And Aziatic Roger - Fuck The World [Trenton 1992]
09 (4:33) Black Caesar - The Symptoms [Jersey City 1995]
10 (3:59) Just Shawn - Just For A Look [Newark 1996]

18 (3:18) D1 - Fakes [Newark 1994]
19 (4:32) F.o.a. - I Keep A Muthf--ka Swoll [trenton 1992]

Let me know what you like. If you see mistakes in the locations feel free to correct them but do not miss out on hearing the other cuts because something is mislabeled. I hope y'all dig what you hear.

New Jersey Underground Part 7 (1990-1997)

These New Jersey compilations seem to have a following so I'm posting volume 7 today. Many of these tracks came from Tony D's vaults. It's too bad much of it was never formally released. You fans of that early/mid 90s Jersey boom bap are going to love this collection. Some of this material might be familiar, but I am hoping most of what you hear on this will be new to your ears.

New Jersey Underground Part 6 (1990-1997)

Hittin' ya up with volume 6 from my New Jersey series. This one has lots of dope and obscure tracks on it, no kidding. The Black Rebels start things out right with hard, fast paced production. When they ask 'if I smoke crack do you think that you would know ?'. Well yes guys, I think I'd know. 'Black Target' is that quintessential hardcore, east coast street rap that has forever burned itself into my mind. Out of 17 underground cuts, there at least 6 which you might have a hard time tracking down in other places. One selection I really love is the 1994 track by Blvd Mosse. Their single from 1990 is more common, but the later material is even better. For you fans of Rottin Razkals, check out 'Hitcha From The Bricks'. It's a banger. The New Jersey series contains tons of gems and volume 6 passes with flying colors.

New Jersey Underground Part 5 (1991-1997)

It's with a certain amount of sadness that I post this batch of Jersey tracks today. In light of his recent death, Tony D's beats bring out the nostalgia in me. Many of his beats were classic and remind me of my own personal glory days back in the early/mid 90's. Ah. to be young, sprung and hip again. To this day, there exists a large archive of unreleased material produced by the 16-stone Italian stallion. Perhaps one of the small contemporary labels putting out unreleased music from the golden era can arrange to give proper treatment and exposure to this undiscovered treasure trove. Tracks produced by Tony include numbers 1,2,3,5,6,(I think), 8.9.10, and 13. What we have here is mostly Trenton material, but some artists are from Jersey City, Newark, and Camden too.

New Jersey Underground Part 4 (1992-1997)

Comin at ya with style on New Jersey Underground Volume 4. Check out the tracks by Mr Low Kash, The Undatakaz and F.O.A., if you are a fiend for obscure hip hop from the Garden State. Of note is the track by Maniac Mob. They were one of the dopest crews I've come across but their output was pretty limited. The rest of this mix is laced too so y'all will probably dig it. Hoping there are new tunes in here for our readers so let us know!

New Jersey Underground Part 3

This is my 3rd underground hip hop compilation from New Jersey. It features some really rare and hard to find material such as High Authority, The Undatakaz, Mr Low Kash, etc. Of note to you collectors, the track by Double X Posse is not on either their 1st or 2nd album, and does not appear on any of their known (to me) singles. I think it came from an piece of wax that never got released. If anyone can tell me about it I would like to know more!
