Yo, which one o' y'all down wit' B.B.O.?

One of the many gems posted in T.R.O.Y.'s Illest EPs Ever thread is from this little known group:

Best Ballers Out, or B.B.O., also known as The B.B.O. Crew, B.B.O. Enterprises or B.B.O. Niggas were a Harlem based group composed of (then Murda) Mase’s brother Blinky Blink (who would later be known from Harlem World), Napizm, White Bread, Beef Tha Thief, Futuristic and manager Chuck Black. (Real names according to the credits on their EP: T. Gilford, M. Foster, K. Leigh, G. Jones, G. Burgess and T. Saunders.) They had ties to DJ S&S, the Niggaz For Life crew and The Children of the Corn(er), first getting shout outs from the likes of Mase and Big L starting around ’93, their song from ’96 Get Rude may have been inspired by Mase’s ’93 track of the same name (V2 / VBR). Sometime starting around ’97, shortly before the group disappeared, they had ads up in The Source promoting what would have been their debut album: Across From 125th St., which of course never dropped. By the end of ’98 they had basically all but vanished completely.

B.B.O – Get Rude / Dayz Lik This / Pose A Threat 12” / VLS - V2 / VBR - (1996)

A1 - Get Rude (Rude Version)

A2 - Get Rude (Nude Version)

A3 - Get Rude (Instrumental)

B1 - Dayz Lik This

B2 - Dayz Lik This (Instrumental)

B3 - Pose a Threat

DJ S&S – Beat of the Day (Throw Ya Hands Up) ft. B.B.O. 12” / VLS - V2 / VBR - (1998)

A1 - Beat of the Day ft. B.B.O. (Radio Version)

B1 - Beat of the Day ft. B.B.O. (125th Street LP Mix)

B2 - Beat of the Day (Instrumental)

Thanks to Verge for reupping the ’97 DJ S&S track So Hot (V2 / VBR), to soopacee for originally ripping and posting the '97 DJ Capone freestyle (192 CBR) and to True King and Ed Catto (and badboy4life on the BigLOnline forums) for helpin’ out with some of the information.

Gravediggaz “Rare & Remixed Volume 3” (Non-Album Tracks)

And finally, here is "Rare & Remixed Volume 3." This last volume is made up of tracks that I found after 2000 and up to the present. Most are random, unofficial remixes or mash-ups. Some good, some decent and a couple whatevers. But the first two tracks are from the advance copy of Prince Paul's "Hip-Hop Gold Dust." When the retail came out, "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" was mysteriously missing. And yes, about 30 seconds in to "Constant Elevation" there is some kind of hiss sounds. That's how it was on the DAT and Prince Paul apologized for it in the liner notes. As an added bonus, I have included the scene rip of the Gravediggaz "Demo Tape" and a very nice 8 track "Halloween Mashup EP" by DJ Cheekyboy. There are also a good assortment of unofficial Gravediggaz remixes on YouTube if you get some free time.

Gravediggaz “Rare & Remixed Volume 2” (Non-Album Tracks)

"Rare & Remixed Volume 2" is mostly compiled of tracks from the "The Pick The Sickle & The Shovel" era (1997-ish & post Prince Paul). To me, the highlights on this volume are the "Michael Jackson Skit" which is a supposed leftover from "6 Feet Deep" and the full "Westwood Freestyle" with The Roots and Hurricane that clocks in at just over 24 minutes!

Artifacts Rhyme Biting Scandal (Tame One vs. Lo Down)1994

Back in the day, maybe sometime in 1994(not positive), I remember listening to Stretch and Bobbito one night when the following occurred:

Stretch or Bob announced that they had received a certain demo in the mail. They played the first verse of said demo, check it out-

Lo Down - Mask Of The Phantom

Well, this verse sounded a little too familiar to the record breaking duo. It rang such a resounding bell because it was the same exact verse Tame One had kicked in a freestyle on their show in the past. They just happened to have that freestyle on hand and immediately played it after that demo. Peep it-

Tame One Freestyle

Yep. Same exact verse. I guess if this happened now a days, it wouldn't mean anything. But we all know that biting, especially straight lyric jacking, was not cool back then. And it still isn't, in our book, right?

I don't remember what exactly ensued after this was exposed, but I don't remember ever seeing many records by the Lo Down crew. It's a shame, too, they had some pretty good beats. Shouldn't have bit.

Download includes full Lo Down song and full Artifacts freestyle.

Thanks to Mad Human at the T.R.O.Y. forum for uploading the Lo Down EP in our definitive Ill EPs thread. Over a 100 EPs and counting, join in and add on.
Thanks to Roy Johnson for the Artifacts freestyle. I'm pretty sure that's who posted it. If not, claim your props in the comments.

Doo Wop & Sun Dullah (King Sun) - New York Love (1996) 2Pac Diss

All Eyez On Sun Lyrics

"You goin overboard with all that, fuck New York shit
trying to dis Brooklyn, but the Boogie 'bout to talk shit
and ain't no fun, if the Dullah can't get none
risin in the East, I'm bout to set it on the West, son
Listen, I ain't even down with who you dissen
far as I'm concerned NY been ass-kissen
for the longest, on the live side I'ma dead it
you aint a trooper, I know that's all super-unleaded
gas you inhaled from all your record sales
cause you went to California and blew up, but you fail
tryin to dis the big apple, I aint supposed to wanna battle
for a million dollar raffle? You gettin gaffled
soon as I see you got a million
after the battle, I be like "oooh what a feeeelin"
Toyota will be selling me they biggest Landcruiser
money green so niggas could fiend like drug users
winners slap users like pimp slap hoes
and we know Suge is pimpin them hoes on Death Row
you actin like you wanna beef, but talkin below me
you ain't a real thug, you a real CaliPhoney
**
Who Shot Ya? No it wasn't me and my peeps
you're talking bout New York, wordup, like something sweet
don't fool yourself, this ain't New York Undercover
it's real like the history of your father and mother
I'm sayin, think about that shit that you did
had a shootout in NY, raped a bitch, did a bid
like you proud of that, then let the world know it happened
first of all you fuckin up for other niggas' rappin
how you makin movies, selling records, doin tours,
then be up in Denemora (sp), scrubbin other niggas' drawers?
the whole point in being criminal is gettin paid
son, you paid already, actin Crazy like Eddie
fuck a Thug Life, niggas die being unlawful
let that peer pressure stress ya somethin awful
with the world in ya hand, fuck a man, be a King
you aint even a man cause you under the wing
Heltah Skeltah from the shelter, need protection
now you're one of Suge Knight's sons, runnin for election
against Snoop Dogg for that top dog spot
Death Row, Prisoner-of-the-month on lock.
***
Now everybody know you from them roles you be playin
so all that make a record shit aint even worth sayin
west coast rappers go platinum in a second
cause west coast niggas go out and buy records
but east coast rappers be on conceited shit
the wack emcees here make repeated hits
they get star-struck and stop giving a fuck
and lyrically, half these niggas suck, and what
just put the real rappers in the ring
let your man bring the beats and whoever do they thing
fuck a record sale, fuck a phoney reputation,
fuck a pimp record label and them suck-dick stations.
Show skills, how ya flow skills, rock a party-
live from the heart, in front of everybody
without a shotty, ain't no need for all that
get your stupid ass some rikers & tracks, fuck the gats
my people out in Cali aint got nothin to do with this
you on your own dick, partner, and you new to this
I could never dis my peeps in the west
but, that dissin Biggie shit, we still ain't impressed..."

http://sharebee.com/aaacd805

Here's a blog from King Sun on his Myspace about the diss:
"Ok, I was the first to respond with a dis record towards Tupac when he first dissed Tribe Called Quest at the Source Awards in '94. Since Tupac appeared on "California" wit Dre, I felt the need to respond wit "Califony" and derived the hook from the Die Hard movie when Bruce Willis was a cop from NY and had beef in Cali. Every time he killed an adversary his reply was "Yippie Kay Ya Mother Fucker."

The beat was produced by DJ Mark the 45 King and was cut up by Funk Master Flex in D&D Studios in Midtown Manhattan. Shout outs to Doug and Dave. I then allowed Doo Wop to put the song on his mixtape to generate a buzz. Tupac and I discussed the dis song after having Ice-T play it for Pac. We laughed together over the phone and Pac new it was nothing personal, but I had to rep NY to the fullest. Shout outs to Ice-T, who's like my older cousin from the Left Coast who has always held me down, to WC Crazy Toons, DJ Aladdin, DJ Pooh, Evil E and Hen G and Shawny Shawn.

Rest in peace Pac. Our love goes out to Mrs. Shakur. Tell BIG I said "Hold some equality for me and Lady Heron and be at the door with Jesus so we can get in!"

Doo Wop played his record with King Sun on his critically acclaimed Summer Jam '96 mixtape. Doo Wop also goes at 2Pac & The Dogg Pound at the end of the tape. Notice how the mixtape only features East Coast artists. This was around the time of Hit' Em Up. According to DJ King Shammek, King Sun had also recorded another diss record titled "Don't Know How To A.C.T." directed at Westside Connection

Best Of Westwood Radio Freestyles - Nas, Biggie, OC, Das Efx, Cam'Ron...

This was submitted by our friend Dj Step One from the TROY forum. If you're digging this, check his blog out: Only Built For zShare Links

"Ive spent the last few weeks sorting through that dusty box of tapes that so many older Hip Hop heads have stashed away somewhere and have been digitizing the various treats I’ve come across.
As Hip Hop was scarce on English radio in the 90s, most of these tapes are recordings of Tim Westwood’s show on BBC Radio 1. Up until 1994, Westwood only broadcast in London and the surrounding area, first on pirate stations LWR and Kiss FM, and then legitimately on Capital FM.
A move to the BBC in 1994 gave him two 3 hour shows every week and meant that Hip Hop heads nationwide finally had the opportunity to hear first hand the exclusives and guest appearances that would make up Tim’s show. It often meant staying in on a Friday or Saturday night, but as some of these freestyles prove, it was worth it!
I was going to do a profile of Big Tim but then remembered that Stretch Armstrong gave him a mention on his blog a while back and I couldn’t think of a better person to rubber stamp Westwood’s contribution to Hip Hop radio."

Stretch Armstrong, speaking on The Flavor Unit track ‘The Flavor Unit Assassination Squad’:

"Bobbito and I got hip to this record via the homie Tim Westwood in London who used to have what may have been the most progressive hip-hop show on earth in the late 80's. Because he was free to operate outside of the beef that had split NYC rap radio in the late 80's but also was very close to both Red and Marley (though closer to Marley who eventually would broadcast a version of In Control on his show in the UK), Tim would bless the airwaves with crazy exclusives and remixes, AND, influenced by his roots in 80's Jamaican and UK dancehall, was the first, and perhaps only, hip-hop personality to get all the hot emcees to re-record their hits with his name in them, sound-clash style. Many in the UK complained that Tim didn't support home-grown talent, but we sure didn't care, 'cause we'd frequently hear shit from his tapes first, sometimes to never be heard anywhere else. I'd have to confirm it with Aaron Fuchs, but I believe Tuff City only released this record after we played it on KCR from a cassette from Westwood's show."

Poops Spotlight Pt.2 (WKCR,WNYU Demos)

A
couple of months ago, we re-introduced you to the incredible emcee who fell off the face of the rap game before he even really got started, Poops. Refer to this link, you won't be disappointed - Part 1
This time around we bring you four more ill appearances from the god; including cuts with Pumpkinhead, A Butta[Natural Elements], Automatic, and a freestyle session from an episode of the legendary Stretch & Bobbito show.

The first cut is a promo called Flushed that was a collaborative effort with Pumpkinhead and most likely produced by FB. This was originally aired on Stretch & Bobbito but re-aired on the 10th Planet radio show[co hosted by yours truly] on WPRB. I no longer have any of the original tapes of the 10th Planet, but am in the process of regaining a good amount of them on mp3 through a follower of the T.R.O.Y. blog. Sean g. responded in the comments of the original Poops post and we've been corresponding since. So, you can thank him for coming through with this one. Peep his blog out here, it's a pretty interesting hodge podge of cool shit worth checking out.

The second joint is a freestyle with Pumpkinhead live on the Stretch & Bobbito show. They go back and forth for few dope verses over some pretty ill beats that I still haven't identified. Unfortunately it's not the entire session, but it's a solid couple of verses you should enjoy. Thanks to Roy Johnson for uploading this at the T.R.O.Y. forum.

The last two joints were re-discovered by Nes over at the Dirtywaters blog. The first one is another solo banger of a demo called Suckas. I had this one on tape years ago and lost the tape within a week of having it. The other track, Lyrics, is another collabo featuring Automatic, A Butta, and once again Pumpkinhead. I believe this was originally aired on WNYU.

Do yourself a favor and don't sleep on any of these tracks. Poops was a goat in the making, in my opinion. It's a shame that he gave up so soon.

A Freestyle, A Sample, A Beat Reborn

The internet, specifically philaflava.com's T.R.O.Y. forum, is a miraculous place.

Recently, a poster named "True King" requested assistance identifying an instrumental that Nas rapped over on the renowned CM Famalam show (click here to listen). Several posters agreed that the instrumental was an original Stretch Armstrong production that never surfaced anywhere else. A poster named "Dirty Waters" identified the sample as coming from Bobby Hutcherson's Natural Illusions LP after "Yohan" suggested that a skilled producer attempt to recreate the beat. "thomas v" further specified that the sample in question appears on the cut "Rain Every Thursday." This prompted "Lyrical Gymnastics" to upload Natural Illusions and our fellow blogger Roy Johnson to upload a two volume collection of Hutcherson samples (Vol. 1 & Vol. 2). The most impressive turn came however, when "Charlie Manson" responded to Yohan's challenge and produced his version of the beat, which I have to say is DOPE AS FUCK, very close to Stretch's original, and most importantly, available for us to download.

Now if that isn't teamwork, then what is? --- Thun
