Tha Stik Up Kidz - F*ck A Record Deal! (CD 2002)

First, I would like to say that I have no information on this release. I randomly found it on Ebay while looking at a seller's items for sale. It was titled ''F*ck A Record Deal'' by Tha Stik Up Kidz. I decided to take a chance and buy it for a few bucks. When I received it, I immediately looked in the booklet and i spotted the release date '2002'. I was a little disappointed as I originally thought that it was something from the 90's. I played it on my cd player and it blew my mind. The Stik Up Kidz had lots of skills and the beats were on point! Listen to it and tell me if it's not a dope album. Track 2 , '93, takes you back to the days when MCs had skills. If you have any information on this album/group, please let me know. I don't even know where Tha Stik Up Kidz are from? Enjoy,

Hiero Producer Series: Toure

Installment #7 of the Hiero Producer Series: Toure

Toure is the most obscure producer from the Hieroglyphics camp. Unless you're a Hiero die-hard, I'd assume that you've never even heard of him, as his known production discography contains only a dozen beats. Highlights include the Casual non-album tracks "Rock On", "That's How It Is Pt. II", and the original version of "Later On". He also co-produced the "First Sermon" remix along with Snupe, and he crafted the beat for "One Life, One Love", which was his only contribution to the '98 Hiero family album "Third Eye Vision". Make sure to check the audio samples.

Toure - Production Files

2. Casual & A-Plus - That's How It Is Pt. II
3. Extra Prolific - First Sermon (Remix)

I never knew about this release until one day when I randomly started digging through my friends dusty heap of cds. As you can see, it is an interesting release with a lot of remixes and b-sides.
I completely forgot about it, until You, the readers voted for Native Tongue Month and reminded me that I have a copy of it and that it would be nice to share with y'all. To the best of my knowledge this has been released in Europe only. Enjoy.

Sounds Like The 90's (Volume 6)

I'mma try and keep this shorter than usual since I just got back from my trip. The people wanted it so you are finally getting it-TAGS!

That's right, moving forward all SLT9's will be mp3 player friendly containing the proper tags and artwork. Volume 6 definitely has a more rugged feel than the previous efforts. The first half showcases what NY's been doing for the better part of the year with the new Smif N Wessun featuring the Smith Bros.

Then we give you a taste of the new Marco Polo/Torae album Double Barrel, which I suggest you clicking on that link to preview because you just might be finding yourself at Best Buy later picking it up. I haven't finished the whole album but based off what was leaked it was reason enough for me to cop it over the weekend (@ Fat Beats too)!

Former ONYX member Sonny Seez is back with a new 28-track album and our sister blog Steady Bloggin' were kind enough to provide 8 tracks for you to check out. I felt
"Romp" was the best of the bunch and belonged on Volume 6. DJ Premier laced Blaq Poet with another joint and then we give you the latest by Chubb Rock and Wordsmith. I know the artwork reads Wordsworth and it would make sense for them to collaborate since they've done it before (Prince Paul) but this is Wordsmith. It's my fault because I told the graphic dude (Kalel) the wrong thing.

Since Pete Rock and C.L. can't put aside their differences we're putting their newest tracks back-2-back on letting you decide who needs who more. Next up we got
Superstar Quamallah making his 4th consecutive appearance with "Bass Murder" featuring Defari Heru. Don't forget to cop Quam's new album Invisible Man.

Making another consecutive appearance is the homie Godamus Rhyme with another leaked track from the T.R.O.Y. project "Classically Trained." This time God tackles The Pharcyde classic and goes 3-3 with his remakes. And since I was in such a Pharcyde kinda mood, I thought it only made sense to throw on the recently remixed O.G. version by DJ Jazzy Jeff and close out the with Jean Grae's tribute to Biggie.

Finally we have some newer tracks by
Tha Connection, Tanya Morgan and '09's version of "A Milli" by Nathaniel Wilson. I did add a bonus track since it doesn't really go with the theme but the subject matter definitely fits. Galvatron78 allows all of us Nintendo nerds to reminisce with his track "Playin Nintendo." You can find more Galvatron78 tracks by clicking here.

Well that's it from me. Hope you all enjoy the new volume and keep sending us those tracks! --Philaflava

Chi-Ali - The Youngest Native Tonguer

Chi-Ali Griffith. I think everyone already knows the story behind this guy, but let's recapitulate it once more, in short notes.

Chi-Ali started rapping around age 12-13. He has made his first appearance in The Apollo club in London, together with Queen Latifah and Jungle Brothers. He jumped in after Afrika from the Jungle Brothers missed his flight to London. He also said that he had wrote around 40% of his first and only album and the rest had been done by Dres, De La Soul, Q-tip and Phife and of course The Beatnuts who were involved in the production of the album as well.
In the interviews which you can see if you scroll down the whole page, Chi-Ali talks about those days and about the time after he has commited that famous murder in 2000.

Check also Roadrunner version with Dove rapping. Thanks to Roy Johnson.
My guessing about this would be that Dove probably wanted to show to Chi-Ali how to rap and flow over that beat.
