DJ Stretch Armstrong “Volume Four” Mixtape (1996)

As I continue on through the box of tapes that I located in my basement, here is a semi mysterious DJ Stretch Armstrong "Volume Four" tape. I could find zero info on this one, so I turned to (the mixtape master of the Philaflava forum) Andyman187 for some help. He determined that this tape is a recording from a Stretch & Bobbito show on Hot97 that aired Sundays from 12pm-2pm sometime in 1996. Andyman187 was also kind enough to study the audio and put together a tracklist for me. If anyone out there can help by filling in the blanks or correcting any mistakes, please leave a comment. And the .rar files contain all the scans plus the full j-card.

Is Philly the 2nd most important city to Hip-Hop?

I'm just speaking for me, not the blog but I also believe it's a very legit question too. When you put it down on paper and realize all of the Philly legends, microphone masters, turntable technicians, classics hits and summer anthems it's an argument worth making.

Obviously, NYC is number one but when you think about how Philly changed the game and continues to deliver the top talent what city/state takes its spot? L.A? Atlanta? Jersey? Houston? Detroit? Think about it...

Here are just some (not complete) of some Philly representatives.

DJ Rob One - Gavin Mixtape 1995

DJ Rob One was one of the more influential DJs in the LA underground until March 16, 2000 when he passed away after a battle with cancer. He used to host a very successful radio show in L.A. at CSUN (Cal State University Northridge) called "The Fly ID Show." Here's a mixtape that he released in 1995. Contains music by Gang Starr, Lords of The Underground (w/ a drop), Big Shug (w/ a drop), Digable Planets, AZ, etc. It's a really dope mix!

DJ Premier WBLS Thunderstorm Vol.6 + Extras

Unless they are more to be released, here we have the last volume(vol.6) of the DJ Premier Thunderstorm WBLS radio show series. The selection of the tracks played on here are different from the ones from previous volumes; the main reason being that this show is from 1995(based on the tracklist) while the previous ones were aired in 1994. This is my personal favorite mix of all the thunderstorm shows that I've heard! For all you diggers, the show starts with a demo from a dope unsigned emcee called Rambo; I believe that the track is produced by Ski as his name is mentioned on the first break. I splitted that demo into a single file which you can download below this mix! Premier then mixes your favorites mid 90's hip hop tunes. Bahamadia even makes an appearance and talks about her then up&coming album Kollage.

Enjoy,

Tracklist
01. Rambo - Like That (Demo) Produced By Ski
02. Notorious B.I.G. - Who Shot Ya
03. Ol' Dirty Bastard - Brooklyn Zoo
04. Smif N Wessun - Stand Strong
05. Dr. Dre - Keep Their Heads Ringin
06. Half-A-Mil - Anyday Can Be Ya Last
07. Dark Skinned Assassin - Lock Shit Down
08. Keith Murray - Pay Per View
09. Jay-Z - In My Lifetime
10. Showbiz & A.G. - Next Level (Nyte Time Mix)
11. Big L - Put It On (L.G. Remix)
12. Heather B. - All Glocks Down
13. Lost Boyz - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Shameless
