King Koncepts - Project: Ambershine [Cassette] (1997)

King Koncepts is one half of the group "Fundamentals" of the Bay Area super group "Kemetic Suns." This is his first and as far as i know his only solo album. A few year later, he and Kirby Dominant made a group called Konceptual Dominance, also Kemetic Suns affiliated. At the time when this tape was dropped, Kemetic Suns members included: KarmaChi, Koncepts, Ayentee Puritan, BayBay Miracle, Asanti Paragon, Hypnotic NativeSon, PrinceRa TBM and Kirbee Dominick.

Tracks from this cassete are managed in 2 separated files, as side a and side b.

DJ PNS - Chicago Rocks Vol.3

Here's the last installment of the Chicago Rocks series. DJ PNS delivers a nice mix as usual. I don't really have something to say about this one, if you haven't check vol.1&2, you can peep them right here. Like I said before, the Chicago Rocks series are one of the most important mixtapes in hip-hop history and definitely the greatest to ever come out of Chicago! Sounds Like The 90's (Volume 3)

It seemed like just last week we dropped Vol. 2 but March is here, so without skipping a beat let's get right into our latest Sounds Like The 90's.

Volume 3 might just be our best yet! We start things off with Bronx legends Eddie Cheeba & Trey Bag from Boss Money (aka Money Boss Players) on the P Brothers flame "Cold World." Then we lace you with Queens native and J-Love favorite Meyham Lauren on "Lost Souls."

A.G. receives some overdue shine on "Business As Usual" featuring cuts by Premier and then on Boston emcee/producer Insight's '04 classic collabo "Strategy."

Last month we brought you the 16 year old phenom Nero and he returns yet again along side another youngster (18) hailing from Miami, QuESt with their rendition of ATCQ's "Check The Rhime." Don't get it twisted these cats might be young but they're more polished than many emcees today. QuESt is becoming a blogger favorite of mine. And while his voice will draw many comparisons to a younger Jay-Z or Scoob Lover, rest assure he's studied the blueprints and is ready to make a name for himself.

Next up is the J Period produced ATCQ tribute "Excursions" by none other than De La Soul. Others will enjoy this compilations diversity as we enlist Minnesotan Musab on one of my favorite '09 tracks "Get Life." We got Bostonian Reks teaming up with DJ Premier once again on "Cloud 9," and newcomer Shawn Anthony hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I first heard of him on the HBO show Entourage and immediately had to find out more about him. Closing things out we have Shady Record signee and Atlanta native Bobby Creekwater dropping "Junkie" and another QuESt jawn titled "Misunderstood."

T.R.O.Y. 101: Our Favorite Posts

We originally tried to be clever and list 101 of our favorite or most notable posts. We found it nearly impossible to narrow it down, so we wound up with 116. But who's really counting? This list is for the readers who recently joined us, the ones who check daily and can never seem to catch up, and the occasional visitors who miss out on a lot. Just because you're old school doesn't mean you have to be left behind!

Google has a relatively new service that allows Blogger users to follow and network with other bloggers. I added the widget that shows our current followers, so if you're a Blogger user and you're not following us, do so immediately. I'll start following your blog in return, and if you post something the T.R.O.Y. Movement needs to read I'll feature it in our "All Eye Seeing" shared items widget. This is also a great way for you to meet like-minded hip hop enthusiasts, and just all around good ol' folks, right?

We now have the various original covers for out "T.R.O.Y. Presents" homegrown compilations flashing in order, and if you click on the animated .gif you'll be transported to page with all of the posts linked "troy presents" so you can catch up on the ones you missed.

The results of our first poll are in, and it appears that a large number of readers want us to cover more '80s rap. Out of 120 votes, '80s hip hop received just over 50%, with non-U.S. hip hop trailing in second at 22%. We're excited about the prospect of putting more effort into that decade, especially the pre-'87 era that is so sorely neglected here and in most of the blogosphere. Stay tuned for further coverage, and please give us suggestions on specific artists you'd like to see profiled. Please vote in our next poll on Gangstarr albums, which will go up in the sidebar tomorrow morning.

Rakim "The Cellar EP" - DJ Mike Nice hooked us up with some recently uncovered mid-90s unreleased gems from Rakim. 

XXL "Illmatic, 15 Years Later" - ThomasV scanned the article from XXL's April 2009 issue so you don't have to. Reflections on the album from the people who were there, including Large Professor, Pete Rock, MC Serch, DJ Premier, and others.

Balkan Bombing + More: European Hip Hop - New addition to the team Markshot compiled some great cuts from Western and Southeastern Europe. Don't sleep on this based on some kind of geographical prejudice!

Cloudkicker's Remix LP + Homegrown Treat - DJ Eli and Shan Boogs put out a remix LP that you slept on. When Verge heard it, he thought some of the interludes could be made into full beats. So he went and did that. 

The Mandolindley Road Show (Paul C. McKasty) - Before teaching Ced Gee, Large Professor, and other pioneers of the break loop how to get down on the SP-12, Paul C. was in a pop-rock band.
