This is a RAP NERD VOLTRON in full effect, duns amd dun-ettes. The entire T.R.O.Y. regular staff (Admiral, Blockhead, Philaflava, Roy Johnson, Schenactady Fan, Thun, ThomasV, Verge) put our heads together to come up with a list of Fifty Remixes that YOU need to hear as soon as humanly possible! Take note that this is not a list of the "best" remixes ever (though many are contenders) or even our very "favorites," (though some qualify) but simply a list of fifty great remixes (interpreted somewhat loosely to include songs that are essentially remakes or sequels) that we think you'll enjoy. We tried to leave out extremely obvious picks ("Scenario" 7 MCs Remix, "I Got'Cha Opin", and the like) but we also kept the list fairly accessible and mostly confined to crews that were signed and put out actual albums. We'll be bringing you ten picks every morning this week, so join the T.R.O.Y. Movement and spread the word via Twitter, Facebook, Digg, the message boards and blogs you frequent, text messages, and what have you. This one is a pure adrenaline rush, and it's easily one of our favorite L.O.N.S. tracks. Produced by Dante Ross of the SD50s.

Quite possibly the dopest remix that the Large Professor has ever produced, and that's saying something. Extra P utilized an incredible Cal Tjader sample for this one. Check out out 2CD set of Cal Tjader samples.

We were on an abbreivated holiday schedule for a minute, but we continued to bring you the goods. We're generous like that. Thank us later. We're just glad that you had a restful and festive holiday season and that you're steady bumping rap songs that sample sleigh bells, a whole mess of Prince Paul remixes, Kool & The Gang samples, the only existing video footage of the Lord Finesse vs Percee P battle, an unreleased DJ Mark the 45 King album, the best quality mp3 version of Large Pro's The LP, all the Ras Kass singles that matter, the career output of Easy Mo Bee, and Chad Sexington's Yacht Rap compilation. Yeah, that's our output when we're on vacation. Some of you bloggers out there are stand up people, but let's be real - you didn't have that many posts of interest all year. And we didn't waste our readership's collective time by reviewing the details of non-music beefs between c-level rappers or premiering the latest year-end snoozefest from fucking Mad Skillz. Show us love.

Beats From No I.D. & Dug Infinite

No I.D. is mostly known  for producing almost all of Common's classic album 'Resurrection', most of  'One Day It'll All Make Sense', and about half of his debut 'Can I Borrow A Dollar?' Along with Dug Infinite, they dropped a very tight album of their own, 'Accept Your Own And Be Yourself (The Black Album)' in 1997. No I.D. has gone on to work with the likes of Jermaine Dupri, Jay Z, and Usher in recent years, but of course that's not the focus here.

The first record here was released in 2001. I copped for eight bucks at a record store that doesn't know much about Hip Hop, about a month ago. There are a couple of instrumental versions of cuts from their Black Album on here and a couple of others you should recognize,but most of the beats were new to me. If not for anything else,this is well worth copping just for the re-working of  the 'I Used To Love Her' beat alone. Not a bad record at all for this century.

The second record here is a bit of a rarity from around 1996, I believe. It was released on Opposition Records as part of an instrumental series along with The Beatnuts and Vic from the 'Groove Merchants'. If there were more volumes in this series that you know about,please drop a comment. Those were the only three I had and remember seeing back then.

top secret - it ain't over yet (toronto 1993)

Here's an underground tape from Toronto, Canada. The hip hop scene north of the border is prolific and diverse. Some of the production on this is sick, but the last 2 tracks should have been left out. The tape cover says 1992 on one side, and 1993 on the other so I don't know which one is right. Produced by Ryan Lord. If any Canadian heads out there can shed more light on this tape or any other production by Ryan Lord I'd love to know!

Hip Hop Landmarks, Pt. 1

You hear about the spaces and places of legend in rap songs often enough, but when do you ever get to see them? The hip-hop tourism industry exists, but let's just suppose that you aren't quite ready to ship off to the Bronx to take a guided bus tour. what to do then? Fortunately, we're living in a Jetsons-like futuristic age of wonder, and Google Maps exists. I put together this lil' slideshow of places in NYC that you might find interesting. This isn't stellar photography but the screencaps show addresses so you can fire up your browser and do some virtual exploring of your own. In this album we have pics of Patterson, Forest, and Mott Haven Houses in the South Bronx for the DITC fans, plus the stomping grounds of Jay-Z, Nas, Wu-Tang, Tribe, Public Enemy and others. The T.R.O.Y. blog debuted at the very tail end of September of 2008.  Four months later, we're approaching 300 posts deep and we're not stopping any time soon. 

When we aren't concocting compilations, analyses, mixes, or interviews for you, we're perusing the blogosphere for the best in throwback rap related goodness, and we shine the spotlight on our fellow bloggers as often as possible. And now, back to business.

ThomasV recently alerted me to news that the producers of the upcoming flick about Notorious B.I.G. (cleverly titles Notorious) have "unceremoniously withdrawn" their offer to have Easy Mo Bee score the film. Even more insultingly, Easy Mo won't even portrayed in the film, even though he was instrumental in jumpstarting Biggie's early professional recording career and produced nearly half of the tracks on Ready To Die.

Now, we all know that this movie is going to suck anyhow. That's besides the point. Easy Mo Bee is one of hip-hop's most prolific and respected producers. Before he even worked with Biggie he had already recorded an album with Miles Fucking Davis. The younger generation has been deprived of an opportunity to learn about one of hip-hop's most accomplished musicians, and Ving Rhames' agent should be fired for sleeping on the job.

Although Easy Mo has said that he will not be seeking monetary retribution of any kind, let it be know that T.R.O.Y. still got your back, baby par. When this news broke, I immediately posted at the Forum and within a few days, our resident mp3 excavationists Ho1ogramz and Thomas V unearthed at least 90% of the man's discography, which we are sharing with you today! The downloads reflect the order in which the uploaders found the material, nothing else.
